Week 10 | “…that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter…”

WHATS UP to my wonderful friends and family! (sorry that my email is SUPER long!)

How are y’all? (you know I’m not just saying “y’all” cause I’m in Kansas… I say it all the time now ha) Anyways!

Comedic Relief

These weeks are seriously flying by. It is insane and crazy! Funny Story for the week: ” We  were walking out of a dinner appointment and my companion and I saw some giant  mushrooms. She told me to go kick it and of course I did cause you know… who wouldn’t? And I kicked it so hard that my shoe and the mushroom went flying and my shoe landed on a car and set off the ALARM! All of the sudden my companion and the elders are dying laughing so hard (because it is so hot and we are all slap happy) and I’m just standing there melting and not knowing what to do. The car alarm shuts off and I get my shoe (I check to make sure that there was no damage) and then there we were off to our other
appointments! So that was fun! Second kind of funny story: So this morning, Sister Joyner and I are walking out of the gym and it’s raining and we get talking to this man who had served a 30 year mission for his church in Brazil and he was telling us that this past week in Topeka the heat and humidity was worse than it was in Brazil. Oh my word everyone this past week was SUPER hot. It was exhausting but so fun. What an experience. I love it so much. I don’t like the headaches I get every couple of days but that just makes the experience more memorable right?! So it’s awesome!

Miracles and Strife
This week was miraculous but there was a lot of hard moments! No worries about those because that’s what makes this experience so incredible! I honestly do not believe in bad days anymore. If you choose to always have a good day then you will! No matter what
happens! I do believe in hard moments but no bad days! 😇 So the week! Let me tell ya about it!

Tuesday: So sister Joyner and I were having companion study and we were in the middle of evaluating a role play and I asked her for feedback and she gave it to me and she looked at me and was like, “Are you okay?” And I just broke down completely! Hahaha like WHAT?!
She felt horrible! It definitely was not the feedback that made me break down but you know those days where you just wake up frustrated with everything and yourself. That was me that day! All day. I felt so bad for my district leader because we had interviews that day and I wasn’t expecting to cry in the interview but I totally did! Oh my goodness poor elder. His face told me that he did not know how to handle it. His future wife will thank me. I am
still apologizing to him. But he then offered to give me a blessing right then and there and I am so grateful for the priesthood power. Blessings from our Heavenly Father are the best! I’m so grateful for my leaders and our Father in Heaven and my elder brother, Jesus

Later that day we had an AMAZING lesson with a part member family! The wife is a less active member and the husband is a non-member and they are both incredible and their hearts are so open to the Spirit! That night we met an amazing man names Ed! We stopped him on the street and he is so receptive to the gospel! Later this week we passed him off to the elders since we can’t teach him cause he lives alone. But he is now on date for AUGUST 6! ❤️

Wednesday: We visited our investigator Connie and she is on date! We met her through a less active member who lives right next to her! Connie is so sweet. She loves her older brother and Savior, Jesus Christ. It was so cute. When we had the Plan of Salvation discussion you could see the Spirit teaching her in the way she was taking it all in. She just kept expressing how awesome it was. The Spirit is amazing when you open your heart!

Thursday: We had our favorite service missionary Sister Wilkes come out with us! We saw lots of people and talked to them! Inviting someone to be baptized on the street is so powerful! If they truly open their heart and if it is God’s will it is incredible! The Lord is
truly preparing precious souls all over the world! As members and missionaries we have the opportunity to pray and ask Heavenly Father for these life changing moments!

Friday: We had lots of rejection on Friday. We had a list that the Bishop gave us of people to go visit! A lot of them didn’t answer their door or they told us not to come back. Which is sad but we will continue to pray for them and there families because we love them! We
taught Connie the commandments today and she gave us her coffee and tea! She then had a cup and a pitcher full of tea and we encouraged her to pour it down the sink right then and there and she did! That was an incredible experience! Our brothers and sisters are so elect and amazing!

Saturday: Not a lot happened on Saturday! But regardless it was a great day. It was super hot so not a lot of people were out but that’s okay! We still had some awesome lessons and did some service at night by helping cleaning the church which is always fun!

Sunday: WHAT. A. DAY. Everyone came to church! Marilyn and Connie came to church. They are now both on date for August 6th! They loved church! We had eight less active families come and it was such a miracle to see them! They are all so amazing and we are so happy that they came to church! Later that day we met Jade and she was a referral from some elders. She is deaf. So we were sitting in our car after knocking on her door a couple times and as Sister Joyner was talking on the phone a young girl walked into the middle of the street out of no where and looked at me and immediately the Spirit told me, ” that’s
Jade” I got out the car so quick and waved to her and started typing on my ipad to tell her who we were and that we would love to teach her. She read it and got this huge smile on her face and told me to follow her so she could go ask her mom. We then called a ward
missionary who knows ASL and she was able to come and communicate with Jade! That was an incredible experience. The Spirit was so strong as we took her to the church. We are going back on Tuesday with another woman who is deaf and with our ward missionary!

We are so excited and now I have a super strong desire to learn ASL! So I found a book at the church that has church terms in ASL and will be studying that today 😇 It will be an amazing experience! Well as you can see this week has been amazing! I had the opportunity to give a training in district meeting on Tuesday on ” We Baptize” which
is a pathway to the gate of baptism! (Which explains the blog title) Baptism is the gate by which he should enter! Baptism is the gate that opens up the straight and narrow path to eternal joy! 2 Nephi 31:17 says, “Wherefore, do the things which I have told you I have seen that your Lord and your Redeemer should do; for, for this cause have they been shown unto me, that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost.” That is my favorite scripture and 2 Nephi 31 is one of my favorite chapters in the Book of Mormon!

These past 2 months have been absolutely life changing. The people of Topeka, Kansas are truly changing me. Waking up every morning knowing that as missionaries we have the opportunity to link arms with the Savior and go out into His field is incredible. I love my Father in Heaven. It is truly an honor to be able to address him as Father. I love my Savior and Redeemer Jesus Christ who is the Only Begotten Son of God. I love my mission.

D&C 84:88, “And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left,
and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about
you, to bear you up.”

Week | 9: The switch has been flipped

Hello to all my amazing family and friends,
How are you? Did you all have the best weeks of your lives? I sure hope you did because I did!

The switch flipped everyone! Okay so for those who served a mission do you all remember that day when you woke up and you hit your knees and you expressed to Heavenly Father that you truly loved your mission and you meant it? Or when you gave your will to the Father and he took it?

That happened to me this week on July 14, 2016. I know this might sound cheesy but I will never forget that day. The night before that I was expressing to Heavenly Father what was holding me back from serving with all my heart, might, mind, and strength. I pleaded and wrestled with Him to take this from me so nothing would be holding back from serving with all my heart every single day. I woke up the next morning and it truly felt like
something has been lifted off my shoulders. I honestly felt so different. It was incredible. I have never had a stronger desire to talk to so many people and share this beautiful message! AH! You guys, the switch has been flipped! I LOVE my mission. I honestly never wanna stop doing missionary work and being a missionary. Waking up everyday and  knowing that as missionaries we represent Jesus Christ is the best feeling ever. It truly is. There is nothing better than that. I would LOVE to hear other missionaries/return missionaries experiences when the switch flipped for you!
So this week flew by super fast. I honestly can’t completely remember what happened…whoops. Um well I can tell you the top 8 (sorry awkward  number) miracles that happened this week! Alright here we go!

Miracle #1: we talked to 10 or more people everyday & had lessons with them.

Miracle #2: we got told by the Bishop that we have gained the trust of the

Miracle #3: went on exchanges with my Sister Training Leader, Sister Hawkes and learned when we are thinking about our investigators is when we are the happiest.

Miracle #4: Did I mention that I FLIPPED THE SWITCH?

Miracle #5: went to a Mission President’s devotional for recent converts and less
actives and what a spiritual experience that was! Hearing their testimonies was incredible. They are truly precious children of the Most High God and so are YOU!

Miracle #6: Marilyn came to church for the second time! She will be baptized on July 30th!

Miracle #7: Kaitlyn (our recent convert ) has been struggling, but after a priesthood
blessing, bringing her McDonald’s (to keep her awake during a lesson) and coming to church the next day and feeling of her Father in Heaven’s love, she is doing so good! We love her SO much.

Miracle #8: We had lots of less actives come to church yesterday! Some that hadn’t
come in months! That was an amazing miracle! We love all of them so much as well and couldn’t been happier for them that they are coming back. The Spirit is truly amazing and is the real teacher.

I don’t know if I’ve told you about Marilyn yet. Well I guess I’ll do that now! We met Marilyn a couple of weeks ago on her porch while on our way to another appointment. She was super receptive and she is so elect! She loves church and praying to her Father in Heaven. She is going to fast and pray about her baptism on the 30th and we are so
excited for her and pray that if it is the Lord’s will for her to enter the cleansing waters of baptism that day then the Spirit will stir in her heart and know it is right. We are willing to do everything and anything for her! We love her SO much! Our teaching pool is struggling a little bit right now… A lot of people have dropped us but we know that we are one step closer to the elect! We are going to continue to talk to lots of people and set up return appointments the next day and put them on date!

People here in Kansas are so awesome and most everyone will talk to you! They are  SO nice! I love waving down people from a far and seeing there faces! Sometimes we get a smile and other times we get, “ew no…who are you? Don’t talk to me…” As they are saying that in their head they are slowing walking onto the grass and acting like we can’t see them. Haha! Those are my favorite people.

Well! This week was amazing and can’t wait to have another week in Paradise! I love you all SO much. Have the best weeks of your lives and choose JOY. You all decide how your day is gonna play out. Choosing to be happy and excited is way more fun than having an attitude and being bitter.

Always remember that your Savior is walking with you every step of the way. He has always been there. His arm is outstretched toward you. Grab hold to his arm and never let go. He will pull you up and carry you. You just have to grab hold first. Let him rescue you. He is willing and waiting.

“But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and
put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye
do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you
out of bondage.” Mosiah 7:33

Week 8 | I’m Melting

I have never ever been so grateful for a car in my life. Let me tell ya.. It is super HOT here in Top City (Topeka) but I love it so much! I am so grateful for the beautiful sunshine everyday! Kansas is gorgeous and the people are so elect. Yesterday we were driving to our investigators house singing at the top of our lungs and I just looked down and realized I was a missionary. I honestly freaked out for a second and was like woah…is this real? The mission goes by so fast and I have way too much fun here. It’s crazy to think that I have waited 5 1/2 years to serve a mission and I’m actually doing it! Crazy right? I love my mission so much with all my heart. I have never felt so much joy in my life. I know I say that a lot but I mean it with all my heart.President McCuistion, our new Mission President, and his wife are the best people in the world. Three words to describe them both would be loving, joyful, diligent to the Lord and His vineyard. I can’t wait to have my interview with him.

So this week was so fun but also hard because we are still double covering areas and Wards till this coming Wednesday. We saw tons of miracles though! We had three church tours this week which was amazing. I love church tours. The Spirit is so strong especially when we go to the baptismal font and invite them to imagine themselves in the font.  A lot of people wonder why missionaries invite people to be baptized after the first lesson or even when we first meet them. We do it because we need to establish our purpose from the beginning. We are called as missionaries to invite and help our precious brothers and sisters to receive the restored gospel. There are three main invitations in the Book of Mormon:

  • 1. To read it
  • 2. To pray and ask God the eternal father in the name of Jesus Christ if these things are not true
  • 3. To be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ by someone holding the priesthood authority of God.

We have a specific purpose as missionaries to represent Jesus Christ as if he was giving the invitation to them directly. Jesus Christ is inviting these children through us. We should not delay this invitation. He would not delay this invitation. Baptism is the gateway to the straight and narrow path to eternal joy. Baptism is the first step that we take to follow our Savior Jesus Christ. We are on the Lord’s errand. We need to have an attitude of  desperation and love for the Lord’s vision.

I invite all of you to pray to your loving Father in Heaven tonight to ask him for a missionary opportunity. If your heart is open and if you are willing to share the gospel the Spirit will be with you and fill your mouth with the message that the Savior would share with them.

If you are not a member or have a question I invite you to pray to your loving Father in Heaven tonight and ask that specific question to Him. As you await your answer please know we are all on the Lord’s timing. Open up your heart and continue to have a burning desire to receive your answer. If you know someone who is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ask them. Heavenly Father might answer your question through someone else. I would love to hear all of your experiences.

I love you all. Most importantly our Savior Jesus Christ and Father in Heaven are aware of you and love you more than you can physically and mentally comprehend. I know this gospel to be true.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the only true church on the earth today. Other churches have beautiful pieces of truth. It’s like a glass mirror. Back when Christ was on the earth that beautiful mirror was in one piece and was perfect. After Christ was crucified and His apostles died that mirror broke and different, beautiful, simple pieces of truth were scattered all over the earth. This is why we have so many different churches.

In the year of 1820, a young boy by the name of Joseph Smith had a simple question: which one of these churches was true? He took his question to God. As he opened up his heart to God he said,” “I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.…When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other–This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father then told him that none of those churches were true. Nine years later Joseph Smith received the power of God, which is known as the priesthood authority. Through that authority we have The Book of Mormon which is another testament of Jesus Christ, a modern day prophet by the name of Thomas S. Monson who leads and guides us under the direction of Jesus Christ because He is at the head of this church, and we also have that beautiful mirror and it has been restored to one perfect piece.

P.S. The scriptures never change but we can.

Week 7 | Fulfilling My Purpose

This week flew by…like it’s already Monday? I feel like I have a lot to say and then I don’t. Ha. So our new mission president comes in this week! President Bell and Sister Bell are leaving as well as lots of missionaries. No one even knows how to say the new mission president’s name but we will all find out sooner or later I guess. I am so excited for the new change and will embrace it!

Since lots of missionaries are leaving, Sister Joyner and I will become a trio with an additional Sister. The new sister is from our district so we know her and she is amazing! It should be fun!

So, funny story for the week…We were in district meeting and our District Leader
was starting his training and all of the sudden he took of his jacket and started to cough and was having a hard time breathing. He suddenly fell to the floor and could not breathe and I was sitting in my chair freaking out cause he goes home in like 4 days and this is not how anyone should end their mission. So the elders get down and start to help him while another was about to walk outside and call 911. Then he got up and said, “just kidding!” I was like are you kidding me??? My heart was racing because one night before he was at our dinner appointment and mentioned he was allergic peanuts so I thought his throat was
closing up!

IMG_0325 (1)

But he got up and apologized to us laughing his head off cause we all sat there with shocked looks on our faces not saying anything. He then continued training and asked “how desperate are you that your investigators progress? Do we want it as bad as we want air? ” I LOVED that training. It was incredible and I learned so much. Our investigators progression needs to be our obsession as missionaries. Bringing precious souls unto our Lord and Savior through the enabling power of the atonement is the best work in the world. I love my mission and the Lord’s work. I wouldn’t wanna be anywhere else.

This week Kaitlyn got BAPTIZED. What an incredible day. We went over to her house two hours before the baptism and she opened the door all ready to go in our matching skirts that we bought and her beautiful countenance just smacked me in the face. We were sitting in her living room just talking and I started to CRY. I have never ever felt so much
love for one of our Heavenly Father’s children like that before. Just looking into her eyes and seeing her excitement for her baptism was miraculous. As she walked into the font I invited her to look on the other side of the font and imagine her Savior, Jesus Christ standing there watching her come unto Him. What a beautiful day and event. President Bell and Sister Bell came with the APS and it was so awesome to see them and hug Sister Bell!

Ethan was also supposed to get baptized that day but we received a text from his mom and she told us that he didn’t want to get baptized anymore. So we went over there and his dad would not answer the door and wouldn’t let us talk to Ethan. We then had Elder Mitchell (DL) come over to help us, especially Elder Mitchell because he gave Ethan his interview and they connected really well! His Dad would still not answer the door and the mom told us to leave her house because we were causing stress between her and her husband, we had no idea what to do.  We were over there for about an hour and a half knocking on the doors and windows and talking to Hazel (the mom) on the phone. We kept praying and praying but no luck. We still have not been able to get in contact with Ethan or his family. We don’t know why but we are praying for them and if it is the Lord’s will and if we walk and pray with faith and expect the impossible He will provide a way if we are willing to do everything and anything for this family and for Him. That was a really hard moment but we know that we are on the Lord’s timing.

I love missionary work. I have never ever felt so much JOY in my life before. Being called of God to be here in Kansas is incredible. There are definitely hard moments but if you choose to always find JOY in the journey you will never have a bad day. Choose JOY and know that the Savior is always walking with you. I can truly say that my Savior  Jesus Christ is my best friend. I know this gospel to be true with all of my heart and I know that Heavenly Father loves all of His precious children and don’t ever forget that YOU are his precious child. You are a son or daughter of the Most High God. He knows everything about you. Your brother Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God and suffered specifically for you. He bled from every pore and at least one of those drops was for you. I love you all so much. Kansas is truly the heartland and the Savior is at the head of this mission.

I invite all of you to read Ether 12:41 and seek Jesus the Christ so that the Spirit of God may abide in you forever.
